Assemble the Activity Sequence

Page Name = ExpActivities

Sandpit area for working out the activities section:

Use this page to put together the sequence of activities that you want your students to do in the learning session that you are planning.

Preparation before the session? | [wiki:ExpActivitiesMainSequence? The main sequence of activities

Upload outline Instructional Design sequence.

Upload skeleton lesson plan.

24/10: Too many clicks to get from Sandpit to individual activities. Put this subdivision onto the Sandpit/entry page itself.
] If we include all activities and all sequences on this page, it will get too long! However, we want people to be able to make notes on a single 'sheet.' So maybe pop up info on the individual activities and sequences in a separate window.

This part of the planner is divided into:

  • A planning guide. Use the guide to map out the sequence of activities in this particular learning session.

Planning Guide for Activity Sequences

Use the Notes space on this page to start mapping out what the students and teacher will do in this learning session. For each activity, consider:

  • What's going to happen in this activity?
  • Where does the focus of the activity lie? Is it done wholly or primarily by a) the teacher or b) the students?
    • If the teacher is the focus, what are the students doing at this time (or vice versa)?
    • If this is a group activity,
      • How big are the groups?
      • How will the students be split into groups? Can they choose, or do you want to decide yourself?
  • Which learning outcome is the activity intended to support? link to LO page
  • How does this activity relate to the rest of the sequence?
    • Is it part of the main 'flow' of activities? If so, where does it come in the sequence?
    • How long should the activity take? (If it's in a F2F session, then you might like to specify the start and end times.)
    • Is it supporting differentiation? For example,
      • Is it an alternative or reinforcement activity for less able students?
      • Is it an extension activity for the more able students who might finish their work early?
  • What equipment and resources do you need? Do you need to book the use of technology in advance? ( link to Context page )
  • Do you need to have an alternative activity up your sleeve; e.g. in case the technology fails?
